The Mandalorian: Episode Three

The Mandalorian is a new series from Disney set in the Star Wars universe, available exclusively with a subscription to Disney Plus, the new streaming service from Disney that launched on 11/12/19. Please see my thoughts on Episode One and Episode Two.

If you're one of those folks who dislikes spoilers: I'll be playing fast and loose with spoilers in this review. You've been warned!

Holy crap is The Child adorable. I know the internet is losing its collective crap over how cute this baby Yoda is, and for once, I agree with the masses. I think it's those giant eyes. And how little it is. And just how many things it does that are so similar to what human babies do that parents will recognize and identify with immediately. I ovulated, if that's possible.

The Mandalorian continues to be a (the only?) good guy in a world full of scum and villainy. At first, he delivers The Child to the client and collects his payday: enough Beskar steel to make a full suit of armor and then some (with plenty left over to sponsor several Foundlings). He immediately has The Blacksmith forge a full suit of shiny new armor, which looks completely bad-ass. Then he does some recon and marches right back into the client's place and takes The Child back. Not surprisingly, the Guild of bounty hunters doesn't like that one bit, and try to take The Child from him. A gunfight ensues, and then the cavalry shows up: the rest of the Mandalorians that have been hiding out on this planet. Seeing a bunch of armored Mandalorians jet-packing around was just another one of those moments in this show that are totally familiar and yet brand-new, all the while being 100% awesome.

With The Child in tow and the entire Guild (and anyone who works for the client) on his tail now, I can only imagine that The Mandalorian is going to need a lot of help going forward. It doesn't seem like he's going to get it from his people, since they took a big risk already, exposing themselves as they did. Time for the lady bad-ass to show up next episode, maybe? We'll see what happens this Friday when an all new episode lands. Looking forward to it, myself!
